Silverfish
Silverfish are silver or brown grey, and measure about 12-19 mm long. Their bodies are carrot shaped and scaly, and they have two long antennas on their head. These pests are very quick on their feet and can survive almost anywhere. They’re especially prone to inhabiting dark, humid areas such as basements, bathrooms and kitchens.
They enjoy feeding on a variety of foods including meat, paper and flour and you may even find them in an unopened bag of food. These pests can survive for up to a year without food and generally live anywhere from two to eight years. They are quick to reproduce and you may not even notice you have them in your home until you have a full blown infestation.
Signs of an Infestation
A silverfish infestation could become very bothersome especially if they are all over your home. They are often found in bookshelves, your basement and even in food packages that are unopened. These pests can survive in almost any environment especially in dark humid areas.
If you have an infestation you will notice many things chewed on, as they eat just about everything. From paper to dusty old books, they will eat whatever they can. The best ways to prevent an infestation is to eliminate any standing water, vacuum hard to reach areas and store food in tight containers. To get rid of silverfish completely, contact a pest technician who can eliminate them.
