What do IGRs Do?
Insect growth regulators (IGRs) are a specialized kind of insecticide that affects the hormones of insects in order to disrupt their reproduction and growth. Due to this, they are rarely effective on adult populations. However, they can prevent adults from having any offspring whatsoever, as well as disrupting the maturation of any currently existing eggs, larva, etc. Here are the most common effects of IGRs on different insect stages of life: Eggs – After being exposed to IGRs, many eggs won’t hatch at all, and those who do survive for a very short amount of time. Larval – IGRs prevent larvae from developing correctly, causing them to be stuck in an abnormal adolescent state until they succumb either naturally or due to deformities from the IGRs. Pupal – Similar to eggs, insects that are exposed to IGRs in the pupal stage often are so inhibited in their growth that they are never able to emerge as an adult and, instead, they parish in this transitional stage. Adults – Infertility or production of non-viable eggs
What Pests are IGRs Used On?
